An interactive 3D web experience that deconstructs minimalist chairs to reveal a hidden lexicon of design principles related to materials, gestures, and form. LexMateria is a minimalist and educational web experience that transforms the principles of furniture design into an interactive 3D art piece. The application presents a series of elegantly simple chair models, each representing a core design pillar: Materials, Gestures, and Conceptual Form. At first glance, you see a rotating 3D chair. With a single click, the chair gracefully "unfolds," its individual components drifting apart in a beautifully animated deconstruction. In this exploded view, the chair becomes a constellation of parts. As you hover over each component, a keyword from the design lexicon—such as "Cantilever," "Weave," "Polymer," or "Void"—appears, linking the physical part to its underlying concept. This tactile exploration allows users to navigate through different conceptual models using simple on-screen arrows, providing a unique and engaging way to understand the abstract language that shapes the objects we use every day. A double-click seamlessly reassembles the pieces, returning the chair to its unified form. How It Works The application provides an intuitive and focused interactive model: Explore the Form: The user is initially presented with a complete, slowly rotating 3D chair. They can use the left and right navigation arrows to cycle through the three different chair models, each representing a different design concept (Materials, Gestures, Conceptual Form). Deconstruct with a Click: A single click anywhere on the chair triggers a smooth animation where the chair's components separate and spread out in 3D space. Reveal the Lexicon: Once the chair is "unfolded," the user can move their mouse over any of the individual floating parts. Hovering over a part highlights it and displays its associated design keyword (e.g., "Wood," "Bend," "Silhouette") as a tooltip. Reassemble with a Double-Click: A double-click anywhere on the screen reverses the process, causing the components to animate back to their original positions and re-form the complete chair. Continuous Discovery: The user can repeat this process, switching between chair models to explore the full lexicon of design terms presented by the application.
