FreqOut like Breakout

"FreqOut like Breakout" is a two-part generative system that turns your game performance into a one-of-a-kind audiovisual creation. First, you play a challenging, color-matching variant of the classic arcade game. Every successful hit is not just a point scored, but a piece of data recorded—forming a network of triangles based on your actions. When your game ends, the second phase begins: the screen transforms, and a 3D wireframe sculpture is built before your eyes, its shape dictated entirely by the triangles you created during gameplay. This sculpture then comes to life, playing a looping melody where the pitch and rhythm are a direct sonification of its unique geometry. Your game is the blueprint; the final piece is your personal work of art.

This application is a complete journey from player to creator, split into two distinct phases. You begin by playing a game to generate a unique dataset, which then becomes the foundation for an interactive audiovisual sculpture. Phase 1: The Game (Data Creation) The first phase is a skill-based arcade game with a unique twist on the classic Breakout formula. The Objective: Like Breakout, you control a paddle to bounce a ball and break bricks. However, the bricks are circular and have different colors. Your ball will always match the color of one specific, highlighted brick on the field. Your goal is to break that target brick. Creating the Blueprint: This is more than just a game. Each successful hit on a target brick records a "gameplay artifact"—a triangle connecting the ball's impact position, the broken brick's position, and the position of the next target brick. These artifacts are collected to serve as the unique blueprint for Phase 2. Controls: Use the left and right arrow keys to move your paddle. Phase 2: The Sculpture (Audiovisual Playback) Once the game is over (either by clearing all bricks or losing all lives), the application transforms. The Transformation: Your collected triangle artifacts are used to generate a 3D wireframe sculpture. The height (Z-axis) of each point in the sculpture is determined by the lightness of its original color from the game. The Generative Music: The sculpture becomes a musical score. A looping melody is played automatically, where a traveling sphere highlights the currently active note. The rules are: Pitch is derived from a point's height (which came from its color). Note Duration is derived from the 3D distance to the next point in the sequence. Interactive Control: In this phase, you can take the role of conductor. Click and drag the colored polygon at the base of the sculpture to rotate it. This action also adjusts the tempo (BPM) of the musical composition in real-time, allowing you to influence the final playback.
